Question ::::: Help find item to use my roadbike for indoor stationary exercise :::::

Hello everyone. I was hoping to get some help finding some type of device to put on under the back tire of my roadbike so that I can use it indoors. I think that with spring here, this type of equipment would be on sale.

Could I get a few pointers for buying a durable and quiet model and a link where to get one at a good price.

I'd like to ride on it for about an hour a day if I could actually make develop the habit

They are called "trainers" Nashbar is currently having a sale on them.

Search the forums for reviews, as it is asked regularly.

In general, wind trainers are cheapest, but loudest. Magnetic or Fluid trainers are more expensive but quieter.

I have a Kurt Kinetic that works well. I have never owned another, so I don't know how good it is compared to others.

Check out this thread http://www.cyclingforums.com/t326148.html and search for others. I have both a Kurt Kinetic Road Machine and a Cyclops Fluid2. Both are very good fluid trainers. Although magnetic trainers are quieter than wind resistance trainers and less expensive than fluid resistance trainers, the resistance of the magnetic trainers does not give a true road feel. The resistance of the wind and fluid type trainers increases exponentially with speed, thus, you can use the gears on the bike to control the resistance. With magnetic trainers, the resistance must be adjusted on the trainer itself. The better magnetic trainers make this easy to do while you are riding, but the price differential between the top end magnetic trainers and the fluid trainers is pretty small, so I would opt for a fluid trainer.

I have a Cyclops Fluid trainer and paid $230 for it two years ago. Nashbar has a Nashbar Fluid trainer on cale for $119 and the adjustable trainer for $139. I think that is a good price for either. Depends on what you are looking for. Hope this helps.

Awesome! That clears up everything! "Trainer" Air, Fluid and roller models.

Thank you

Also thanks for any links to sales.

I was intending on using this at home when watching TV or surfing the internet so a Fluid model is what I think I will want. However, now that I have found out about the roller models I may want one of those too. Maybe next spring
