Because I ride to work and back only, I went for the cheapest name brand tyres I could find. I went the Hutchison training tyre on special and it was great, until the edges started to crack and I have no idea why...

Now I have Conti Ultrasports. Again, cheapies, but I luv em... Corneringis much better.

I'll have to get a better tyre when I start crit racing, but I don't know why...

Conti Attack/Force: They don't puncture, which is helpful in a race tyre, and only weigh 400g for the pair, but they have a crap rolling resistance compared to Pro2race. Get em for fast training, not racing.(maybe club races)

Schwalbe Ultremo: 190g each, vectran breaker, reports of great RR, they are next.
13,000k for you should equate to 7,000 - 9,000 for me, quite impressive, assume this is rear. I'm not 100% sure on the tpi count, it sounds like they are counting mutiple layers. Looks like its a more durable tyre than the 4000.

Attack/Force are out - poor rolling resistance.

Schwalbe Ultermo. Where do you get them from?

Welcome back.

I'd go for the conti gator skins for commuting if I was buying commuting tyres. My commuting tyres consist of left over tyres from training/racing.

Good price too (price is for pair. In Aus you don't pay VAT. Postage is steep, so if you need anything else throw it in with the tyres) I know it says 195, but various weightweenies have used them and they come in under 195g.

Forgot to mention that I found the Rubino Pro's better for high speed dry weather cornering than the Pro Race 2's

I needed a quick spare so i used a Kenda i had from a new bike but changed straight away, and it has lasted very well, just for rec riding though. But I was very surpirsed, much better than the Bontrager that I had.

I have used Conti Gp which I have liked, but I think the Michelin have been my fav.

Years ago I had some Vittoria, lasted for ages. Lovely. I might get some more - any comments on good cheap Vittorias. Just for long lasting rec riding.

I could swear someone posted a link in this thread to a table showing rolling resistances of the major tires, but I'm not finding it... Anyone?

Conti 4000 isn't in that rolling resistance review. Mitchlen Pro Race2 looks the best in that review.

Yep, Auckland. Most of the roads here have coarse chip on them - I've complained to the council re the roads(a number of times) and they say it's 1/5th the price over smooth seal - so that's what we get. Bugger

There are smooth sealed roads too - like Tamaki Drive(waterfront/Mission Bay etc) which is where some of the major time trials are held - for good reason.
I've seen the schools timetrials there - 7AM on a Sunday to not annoy the residents. Looks cool with teams of five with bike lights flashing etc.

Panaracer is a brand that's not heard of much. I have a Stradius Extreme on the front of one of my bikes and I really like it. I'll be buying more if I can them for a good price

Went out for the hardest ride I'd ever done this morning and got my second flat of the year. Yesterday I replaced my rear pro race2 with a rubino pro that I had lying around and I got a chunk of glass in it at the top of a climb, the previous flat was on the front pro race2.

Looking back at my stats over the last 5 years I've had exactly 1 flat tyre per 2,000k.

Probably no fish either?
When we get hungry over this way we can just pick them out for a snack. I always carry Tomatoe sauce with me for that reason...
