I am taking a cycling trip form Vancouver to San Diego this summer. I just bought a Cannondale R500 road bike yesterday. I decided against a touring bike because I want to do triathalons when I get back, and so thought it would be wiser to spend the money on a bike I will get more use of in the future. Are panniers maybe too heavy for the road bike, should one use a bob trailer instead? ANy suggestions??? |

I think the chain stays are to short for decent sized touring panniers on that bike and it doesn't look like you have eyelets for the rack. I'm not sure I would tour with 24 spoke wheels either but you might do OK with the trailer. Think about using a 36 spoke rear wheel....my two cents. Quote:

What is the lowest gear you have? How much do you weigh? How much will your touring gear weigh? How many Watts can you generate after a day of riding to get up that last climb?
