is it just me or is he using 9....is this common practice amongst the pros?

5 outside the chain, 4 inside the chain, and of course 1 in the chain

Looks like 9, but then it also looks like 10 - the mysteries of cycling - this is just another one.

Will we ever know? I hear the truth is out there - does anybody have Valverde's phone number?

I count 10.

The cog behind the chain is hidden - but if you look carefully, some of the teeth on this cog stick out from places they wouldn't normally.
