Default Short Review Trek 1000-05 after a week

I am writing this review from my experience and since I have not own another road bike on this level my opinions are based solely on Trek.

Before buying this I read numerous reviews and opinions mostly regarding Sora shifting and I find it shifts flawlessly, smooth no problems. When shifting the front derailleur you must hold the shifter few seconds longer until the chain engages. That’s all. If that’s the big issue then its not an issue.

The bike handles real well and the frame soaks up the road pretty good. I can attribute this to geometry and front carbon fork. Before buying this bike I looked at Felt at local LBS and the horrible welds on Felt were real cheap looking and Trek frame welds are just superb, well done and beautiful. So two Thumps up to Trek as an entry level bike that you won’t outgrow soon.

Just bought my wife one... I find no issues with the bike, other than the stock wheels stayed true for about 5 miles. Once they were "tuned up" it has been fine.

I purchased an '06 Specialized Allez Triple back in november, which is similarly equipped as your bike (sora shifters, and front derailleur, tiagra rear) and agree it shifts smoothly and flawlessly, however the front derailleur does have that lag that i sometimes forget about and miss shift. good thing upshifting isnt normally done in a hurry for me Downshifts are quick and precise.

Glad your happy with the trek, My gf is happy with her Trek 7100 (hybrid/comfort), and my older brother likes his older 4500 mtb.

Keep the chain lubed, and your derailleur pivots lightly lubed and your bike should last a while!!!

Main complaints about Sora shifters is the amount of plastic parts used on them, same goes with the Tiagra shifters. 105 and above use all metal parts, which will last longer in the long run. Also, like pointed out, the front cog shifter can be a little clunky.
