Default In need of help with clip-less shoes / pedals

Hi all ,

I am quite new to cycling and am looking into get my first set of clipless pedals and shoes.

Im looking for a entry level pair of shoes, Ive found a pair that are in my price range and that I like the look of ..... http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/M...9&ModelID=9502

It says in the specs that these shoes can be used with Shinamo SPD-SL pedals, Im assuming like these ... http://www.wiggle.co.uk/ProductDetai...0Team%20Pedals

What I cant get my head round by looking at the sole of the shoes in this photo http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/L...eName=9502.jpg it looks like there are 3 holes on the bottom of the shoe that conect to the pedal.

But with the SPD-SL pedals , I cant work out how they connect to the shoe.

Could anyone explain to me how they work, or if Im looking at the right sort of pedals for those shoes in the first place.

Thanks

Richard.

Usually the cleats come with the pedals, I did not spend much time researching this with the pedals you have mentioned. But this http://www.wiggle.co.uk/ProductDetai...%20SL%20Cleats

will show you the 3- hole pattern that the cleats have to fasten to the shoes. Then the cleats fastened to your shows clip into the pedals.

First, Don't buy your shoes online. You really need to go to a bike shop and try them on. If they don't fit right your feet will get very sore. Your knees could suffer as well. When I got my first pair I had to try on about 5 pair before I found a pair that fit well. One pair had an arch so high I couldn't even stand up.

Second there are 2 basic types. The ones that you can walk around in(generally MTB shoes & pedals mountain bike), and road shoes and pedals (these cause you to do the "duck walk" on hard surfaces). MTB cleats are recessed into the shoe, Road types stick out the bottom. I ride a road bike using mountain shoes and pedals.
