Here's an idea. Why don't you go poll this guy... http://www.toledoblade.com/apps/pbcs...5561956&Ref=AR I'm quite certain Mr. Thug prefers his victims be unarmed and defenseless. Maybe the cyclist he murdered on July 15th in Toledo, ohio should have used his sun screen or tire levers to save himself from the thug. http://www.toledoblade.com/apps/pbcs...WS03/807250342 What a bunch of sheep. Totally agree with campybob. I am a peace loving person but when I do my long distance riding in sparsely populated areas I pack a gun and feel safer because of it. I have known of other roadies being assaulted where I live. Velociclo |

Just ban guns. Easy. Trouble is, there are so many floating round the US that the problem won't go away. Shoulda banned em from the word go. I shall now go and hide before the entire population of the US lets rip at me! You guys I suppose need guns to protect yourself from other gun-carrying low-lifes. Different country, different standards. I am shocked that people carry guns while riding but I won't criticise them. Here in Australia I am not likely to run into a gun-toting drunk. You blokes are, so you fight fire with fire. Shame Shimano or Campag can't integrate them into the shifters though |

It's funny to me: these gun guys spend tremenous amounts of cash on these guns (show me a gun owner that owns only one) and most NEVER even use them in a self-defense situation. "Gotta be ready for just in case..."...they're what I call "belt and suspenders" type guys... What's scary about these concealed weapon guys, or gals, is that they walk (and cycle apparently) around with a chip on their shoulder just waiting for an opportunity - a car driver cuts 'em off; a pedestrian gets in their way; another cyclist pisses 'em off; a dog bites 'em... |

How is this thread going to be any different to the largest topic on this forum?? For those who feel the need to carry a gun I feel sorry for you and your community that you feel that unsafe. I don't feel that unsafe here in Australia....ever. I probably wouldn't choose to live some where that I did feel that unsafe. But I'm not going to complain because somebody living in another country does feel the need. I have South African work mates, I'm sure they would have carried a gun every minute, and for good reason. They live in Australia now.....

Cyclists who carry A LICENSED GUN are more likely to be calm, aware, and secure. People who flout the laws are likely to be insecure, paranoid, and will get an illegal weapon. Please do not mix the two together. |

About your second comment, I'm going to let that go and not take the bait with regard the statement that you're presumably making about native South Africans versus immigrants to their country. |

I've been robbed at gun point, and I still don't think that my carrying one will improve my chances of escaping such a situation. That would make the perpetrator even more likely to shoot me, I think. But if it makes you think you are somehow empowered, go for it. |
