Do you trust carbon fiber handle bars?

I have someone who is willing to sell me a brand new Race Face carbon handle bar for $60. I know thats cheap but I always have this fear of going down some crazy technical trail and then the thing just cracks in half causing me to wipe out bad. Carbon fiber parts are basically just plastic reinforced carbon, so the integrity of carbon parts is only as strong as the plastic reinforcing it. I know Race Face makes one of the best carbon components in the world, but am I better off getting a steel bar and be safer? How strong are carbon bars?

Really? Race Face is the shiznit? How about you use the "search" function, read, learn, and then go walk up a hill. You know, you don't need handlebars to walk up a will. Geez.

You offer a lot of stiff words for someone with nada experience knowledge. You should try learning before talking.

And yes Race Face is one of the best components out there, just because you can't afford those components don't knock it, I hear wal mart has a sale on bikes, that should fit your budget lol

I`ve used one of these for three years, year round, riding on snow/ice during the winter months, no problems.

I suggest taking in a few articles on carbon fiber reinforced plastic, maybe start with wikipedia. It might put your mind at rest.

Just because somebody asks a basic question it doesn't give anybody the right to rip into them.

Sure it does, when in another thread the virgin CF guy is savvy and worldly enough to mandate what one should and shouldn't wear on a bike, based on the legends of cycling, the storied history of the sport, and the legends that sit on its throne.

LOL Pogata, in spite of what the OP says, there is a bit of difference in quality terms between a Schmolke bar and Race Face stuff. You are comparing probably the highest quality bars out there with very run of the mill stuff.

I would have no problem trusting a set of Schmolke bars that I had installed and cared for. I do not know much about Race Face equipment, but what little I have seen is nowhere near in the same ballpark...

For bars I would rather choose Deda or Ritchey in terms of slightly more cost effective stuff.

Well thanks for the info guys, I decided to get the race face carbon bar, but for an even $100 he also sold me a brand new race face carbon stem with a selle Italia seat so I think the deal is very sweet considering the seat alone in stores costs over $100. I am just amazed at how light the handle bar is and wow is it stiff, no flex at all! Also it makes my bike look better.

Be very careful in terms of maintenance. Do not continue to use the bars should you crash on them, even if they do not appear to have any damage.

Beyond that, happy for you, hope you enjoy riding with 'em.

You know, at one time I did trust my handle bars.

But then late one night, I was awoken by a strange noise coming from my garage. It was a rhythmic sound, similar to someone pushing and pulling a sanding block across a piece of wood. With a flashlight in one hand and a baseball bat in the other, I summoned all my courage and burst into the garage. Imagine the shock and disgust when I saw my handle bars lustfully sliding back and forth in my bike's stem, literally on the brink of ecstasy. I quickly left the garage and ran back to bed, trembling from the atrocious act I had just witnessed.

And from that night on, I have never trusted handle bars again.

Nike shoes are completely overpriced for the low level of quality you are getting. I personally would never wear anything with a Nike logo because if I do I am saying I support cheap labor and inhumane working conditions. Just the fact that Nike isn't even making shoes in China anymore, they go to even poorer countries like Vietnam to make their shoes and then have the nerve to charge $150 for shoes makes me anti nike. Next time your in a shoe store take a look at the tag to see where the shoes are made. Most are now made in Vietnam or Bangladesh. Nike = Evil

Airbus don't have a problem making their new aircraft with CF.
