I have never ridden Campy, but I'm thinking of testing out Chorus. But I like being able to downshift when in the drops, which Ultegra SL makes simple to do. I don't ride in the drops a lot, but I would think it would be an inconvenience to have to come back to the hood to shift. I might rather have downtube shifters.

I've got no problems with the way Campy Shifts (I have Record, FWIW).

How can u make a conclusion when you have never ridden Campy?

You dont know the product and then assumed that shifting from the drops is impossible? Just a note ... many professional teams use Campy, doesnt that tell you that something basic like shifting from the drops is possible?

You really do need to test ride a group to know if you'll like it. Sr. Cho is right in that you can't reliably choose a group just based on what others say. The offerings from the big three (Campy, Shimano, SRAM) all shift in fundamentally different ways. They also have different ergonomics, which is usually an even bigger factor in choice.

No need to come to the hood to shift. Reach your thumb up to the thumb button and shift. Might be an issue if you have teeny hands but not for most. Go ride a bike with ERGO and see.

I agree. I have no problems at all shifting from the drops with CCampy and absolutely love the thums shifters and overall feel of Campy's use. That said, it can be a problem for some, but that is a function of both the size of your hands and the placement of the shifters. Ride it and see for yourself. I rode Shimano for years and the day I tried Campy I ditched Shimano and never looked back.

I've only used Campy on a rental DeRosa, but again, no problems using the thumb shifters from the drops. In fact, I liked the way you could hold down the button and the RD would just keep walking down the cassette.....thought it was very handy for the compact my bike had when changing up to the big ring in front. Coming from years of riding Shimano, I had to pay attention to shifting the first day, but after that it seemed easy and intuitive. Can't say I like the system better than Shimano, but it certainly worked fine for me. The way Shimano prices have taken off, would definately consider Campy for the next go-around.
