Tubular or "sew-up" tyres are ... tubular and are glued onto the a rim, which has no flanges, just a rounded bed where the tyre is seated. "Tubs" have a very lightweight tube inside the casing, which is sewn on the inside and covered by a woven tape. Patching is a complicated procedure. Clinchers have a bead (usually wire or kevlar) which is hooked under rim sidewall flanges, then inflated to hold them on. They, of course, have separate tubes. There are also tubeless tyres. Here's how to replace a clincher tyre and tube. |
