Default Pedals

This may seem odd, but do they make a pedal for a road bike similar to that of a spin bike where you can you user regular sneakers or flip them over to use your riding shoes. I'm looking for something along those lines for my bike. If it exists, can you point me in the right direction?

Thank you.

They do make those.

I'm not recommending these pedals to you because I've never used them, but here's a link that will give you an idea about what is available.

Well, I just noticed my link didn't pick up the pedal adaptor I was trying to show you.

Let me try again....

Im not an expert, but I believe that platform pedals are mostly used on cyclocross bikes, because you can clip in on the road or be unclipped off road. I think

At least thats what my uncle uses in Poland, but he's not a pro either, just rides lots of on/off road trails.

Hi,

On my Trek mountain bike, I use the Shimano PD-M324 clipless/platform pedals and love them. Finally switched over this summer. Should have done it a long time ago especially during my off season when not on my road bike and I'm hitting the trails. I don't see why you couldn't use them on a road bike, unless weight is an issue.

I use the Keen cycling sandals with them along with a pair of Shimano MT31 shoes for those not so hot days. Both shoes clip in and are easy to walk around in when off the bike. You can find the pedals (come with the cleats in box) and the Shimano shoes on the Nashbar site. REI carries the Keen sandals.

Forgive my ignorance, but do I completely change out my current pedals or do I put these on. These look like an adapter for clipless pedals. I currently have regular pedals with the stupid basket and I want a pedal where I can switch between my cycling shoes and sneakers.

It depends on which type you buy. They have clip-in platforms for spd pedals, and they have platform pedals with an spd attachment in the middle, and they have a pedal which is spd on one side and platform on the other. Take your pick. I believe all the online retailers have one form or another.

SPD was created for off road use. Road bikes traditionally use the Look-style pedal (though some roadies prefer spd.) Some people just don't like to clip in all the time.

You're looking for something like Shimano A530 SPD

do spinning pedals use SPD cleats on one side? never been to a spinning class...

if so that last link to the Shimano A530s should do the trick. Only thing is that the A530s dont seem to accommodate any kind of strap/basket/toe clip/retention device on the non SPD side...

good luck

No, that was my misunderstanding. I thought you already had clipless pedals and needed something to use them with sneakers.

Those Shimano A530 pedals should be good for you.

I don't have that model, but I do have Shimano SPD clipless pedals on both of my road bikes and I love them.

my spin bike at the gym has the regular plain old toe clips on one side with the straps and everything, but on the other side has an insert, i guess, for my spd cleats to clip in too, i don't personally like it because i don't like all that junk riding down there, but it seems to be exactly what your looking for, provided you want the pedals with straps too, if not, those you listed looks like they would be a winner. i'll try to find out the exact model of those pedals and let you know

The A530 has a platform on one side with a spd on the otherside, a toe clip cannot be placed on the platform side. The difference between this and the pedals on spin cycles in the gym are that the pedals at the gym have spd on one side and a toe clip on the other side. The shimano M324 has the spd on one side and can have a toe clip on the opposite side. If you want a pedal that is similar to the spin cycles in the gym then look at the M324.
