I'm trying to replace a spindle on a GT Timberline with a cartridge BB. I have measured the OA length of the spindle at 68 x 125.2mm. On the spindle is inscribed: VP 3S 05.01A I have been told I need a cartridge that is 68 x 127? Maybe i need some hand holding but is that correct at 68 x 127? I'd appreciate any help. |

Replace the entire BB. A sealed unit is much better. You 100% certain of the length? 3S is a size code, in this case the BB overall length should only be 121.5, not to say that particular manufacturer follows a standard though... The 127 is the symmetrical equivalent, meaning you can install a BB that is 127mm wide. It maintains the proper crank/chainwheel position on the drive side but the left crank will stick further out. I know Shimano has a BB, UN54 that is 127.5mm. Would fit...but anyways.... Go to various bike shops with your old bb and you should find one or two that really know their stuff and will be able to get you back on the road. |
