Default 10spd crank with 8/9 Speed parts

I am in a position to purchase a 10 speed Shimano crankset for a great price..

Only problem is that I'm running a 8 speed rear cassette...8/9 rear der & 8 speed shifters....& a 8 spd front der.

Will I be able to use the 10 speed crank...?

Yes, you will probably be able to use the 10 speed crank with your current components ... there ARE exceptions (e.g., if you have a touring frame with 135mm rear spacing & the crank is a standard double with 150mm Q-factor then the crank, itself, won't clear the stays).

BUT, is this a cosmetic change OR is there something wrong with your crank's BB OR are you changing the crank arm length?

Which Shimano crank is replacing the current crank on your bike -- is it actually a "better" crankset OR do you simply feel that "you would be losing money" if you didn't buy it?
