I actually thought many weaker riders with compact cranks (50-34) would like 13-26, which is why I got one some time back. 50x13 at 40 kmph has a cadence of something like 82 rpm. My natural cadence is around there, as apparently is the case for a typical human. Since I could not sustain 40 kmph on the flats, 50x13 was a good high end limit. The low side 34x26 is plenty low enough for hills. I did not pedal descents, so overspinning there was not an issue. So, 13-26 seemed good for having a lot of gears in my ability range at the time. Maybe Campy had similar thoughts.

That said, I now find 13-26 too low and use 12-25. I also have an 11-23, though this seems too high a range (for me), and 34x25 is a bit too low. So maybe 11-24 next, if there is such a thing. I would be interested to know if anyone out there is running 13-26. What are your reasons to choose it? I thought it would be a popular pick, though have no clue if it is. The posts generally seem to suggest it is not so well received.

There is no 11-24.

13-26 just doesn't seem too versatile to me. The ranges that Peter listed (11-23,11-25,11-27,12-25, 12-27, 12-29) seem to cover all the bases for the vast majority of people and crank combinations. That is, a person could pick one of those cassettes, and it would cover most if not all of the rider's, uhm, rides.

Perhaps you are right about versatility, as mine now sits in a box unused and I only think of using either the 11-23 or 12-25. No 11-24 is good to know - one less thing to buy and try!

13-29 seems like a good range for a standard double 39-52 or 53. Not so good for a compact where 12-29 would be better for hilly rides.

11 tooth cogs never made sense to me for anything over a 46 tooth front ring. But then, I don't ever try to keep up with fast groups, so spinning out at a little over 30mph is not a problem for me.
