shimano nexus 4 speed automatic advice

hi every one ive just joined the site and am looking for advice on useing a real breeze bike fitted with the nexus 4 speed automatic gear change i can use the up and down buttons to change but i dont know what to put it on to use it automaticly ive read about that it has batteries but dont know where they are if anybody can help id be very greatfull many thanks
