LOL - all idioms sound ridiculous when translated literally. I mean think of it, 'bad ass' could be translated as 'asino cattivo'.

E un'altra lingua e molti espressione non sono equivalente, molto meno suonare esattamente la stessa. Inoltre, l'inglese e pieno di idiome!

That is the problem - some of the hardest parts of english to learn are the abundance of idioms (like 'bad ass', 'cool', 'wack' etc) which can also be taken as slang and then the homophones are very difficult - bight/bite/byte, bare/bear, heel/he'll/heal, medal/meddle/metal/mettle - and finally the non-phoentic pronunciation (knight/night, etc). Sure the native speakers might scoff and say overall english is easy language, which I agree with, but it has lots of qualities that are not intuitive. Knowledge of those subtle parts pretty much separates a well trained non-native speaker from a native. Not that the natives have textbook english either....:-)
