Default Gear questions by a non technician

I purchased a Trek 7500 FX which is ideal for the biking that I do. I want to compute how many gears the bike has. Where can I find a 700 x 38 wheel gear chart or the formula's to make one? The cassette is a Shimano HG-50 11-30, 8spd. Where can I find the number of teeth on each ring without having to count them? The info that I have found just lists the max and min number of teeth.

The number of gears you have is the number of front chainrings x 8. If you mean a gear inch chart, there is one in Sheldon Browns stuff at www.harriscyclery.com As for the teeth count, you sound like a big boy/girl with all your fingers and toes so do your own counting.

Here's a great site for you to plug in all your gear information into. It will automatically calculate more information than you probably want to know about your gearing.
