I, like many others, cycle on a tight budget. I bought a lightly used threadless fork to upgrade one of my older bikes. Problem is that the fork's steerer isn't quite long enough. I took some measurements of the dimensions of another bike with an older cane creek C2 on it, and I think that with a C2 headset, with no spacers, the steerer will be about 1/3 inch from the top of the stem when installed. Now, I might be able to live with that, however, if I found a 'lower profile', or 'shorter' headset, I could perhaps get some of that 1/3 inch back. Does anyone know of a 'low profile', or 'short' headset? I could also look for a 'shorter in height' stem... any ideas here would help as well....

Check www.branfordbike.com for HS specs. You will likely only save about 2mm at best. It's easy enough to measure a headtube and buy a fork with plenty of steerer. Too long is always better.

Looks like the campy headsets have the shortest stackup at 24.5mm. And for stems, it looks like the ITM millenium at 34mm.

Personally I wouldn't worry about the 1/3" gap. No big deal.
