Question wireless cyclo-computer ratings?

Got a new bike that needs a computer. I've been satisfied with a basic, wired Avocet for years on my old ride, but am thinking about wireless for the new one. One big issue under consideration is the ability to add on aerobars for tri and TT practice, and remove back to basic road bars with the main unit front and center. It seems to me that wireless is the only easy option for this. Thoughts?

I'm really only interested in the 6 or 7 standard time/mileage functions. I suppose cadence would be a nice feature, but I've lived without it for years. It's pretty easy to count my strokes for 10 or 15 seconds and multiply by 6 or 4 to yield a sum [and yes, I know that I can do 6 seconds of counting X 10, too..., but thanks for that potential suggestion anyway ;^)]

Are there good/bad experiences with particular brands and models? I'm considering Cateye and Sigma, but am very open-minded and haven't done too much research. I'm interested in ease of use, durability and accuracy more than price, BTW. Thanks for any input!

Changing your steering setup is a pretty good motivation for using wireless imho. One thing to take into consideration though is that wireless units are dependent on batteries for the various costituent parts. The Sigma unit I have has batteries in the sender unit, batteries in the receiver and batteries in the computer. The sender unit in particular seems to eat its way through them and I've occassionally had the batteries die during a race when I've forgotten to make sure they were fresh before starting out.

No experience with it, (it's new this year) but it sure looks interesting...

It's been mentioned here before, but here goes, it's made by Mavic, what makes this unique is the speed sensor is integrated in the skewer and it has an optional cadence feature.

Functions are as follows, current speed, max speed, average speed, clock, ride time, trip distance, total distance, total accumulated distance, trend indication (+/- vs. average speed) and a wireless cadence option. ($$$ though).

Yeah, but there is a big problem with the Mavic computer. Nobody stocks them.

I used a Cateye cordless, which was a very solid unit. No cadence however.

The Vetta V100HR has wireless options, and measures heart rate and cadence as well as just about everything else useful. This would be my choice.

I have heard a lot of good things from people about the Cateye Astrale (wired sensor, usual features + cadence.)

They recently updated the design with a larger display -- the result being that a lot of stores are running closeout deals on the older model. Could be worth a look for a bargain.

I must say, though, that the latest Sigma computers with the stem mount also look appealing (mainly for the fact they save valuable handlebar space.)

I had an older Cateye computer (use a Polar now) and it did exactly what it said on the tin. A great, trouble free unit.

I have the new Cateye Astrale with larger display and cadence. it is indeed a very nice unit, but it isn't wireless (as per the original post). It does however have a long enough sensor lead to measure speed from the rear wheel.

The Sigma units appear to be a very good value, but I have heard complaints about being rather fragile/cheap.

I am going Vetta b/c I want cadence w/HR capability.

i have a VDO Cytec C15+ (link) for about a month. i like it so far. only minor gripe is that the receiver/handlebar mount is sized for 26mm so it is not flush with my 31.8mm OS handlebar.

the Performance A10: http://www.performancebike.com/shop/...187&Store=Bike
looks to be identical to the VDO C10+: http://www.coloradocyclist.com/commo...655&TextMode=0
but $15 cheaper. they have settings for 2 bikes as well as the wireless functionality you're looking for.

does anyone know if Performance just blatently produces knock-offs or whether they get manufacturers to rebadge products for them?
