I think my new bike qualifies for a good bang for the buck $1000 - $1200 road bike. Just scored a new 2004 Raleigh Supercourse on ebay for $600 + shipping. Not too shabby for a mostly 105/Ritchey bike. I bet they put a Tiagra cassette and bottom bracket on her though. That's where they cut costs and save money - where you can't see what's on the bike! Other than that it looks like a decent bike. Too bad the components are black instead of the brushed aluminum. Specs here: http://www.raleighusa.com/items.asp?...temid=198&va=0 Just scored some new SPD-M505 pedals for $10.50 + shipping also. All I need now is another cyclometer and a couple of bottle cages and I'll be set. |

Well sitting here in Ireland I can only drool at the prices listed above. Here, a Specialised Allez Elite retails at the equivalent of $2000 while a Giant OCR3 with Sora and sub-Sora components will set you back about $1000. I've never even seen a Felt, apart from online. Luckily we have ebay and a number of very good UK-based mail order and internet shops. I built my new bike from a steel frame which was lying in the corner of my LBS gathering dust and marked down to 30% of the original sticker price and bought all the rest of the components online. Adding in labour for things like the headset and bottom bracket (for which I didn't have the tools), I have a beautifully painted Olmo, handmade with Columbus tubing, brand new Mirage groupset, Mavic Cosmos wheels, decent tyres, bars, stem and saddle (won't bore you with a full spec) all for the same price as that OCR3 I mentioned..... |
