I too can have some pain, If looks are not a big concern you can try one of the gell covers. They just tie over your seat, Bell makes one and Nashbar has a couple for sale. I am searching for a more comfortable saddle but I seem to always go back to the cover. You can also try more comfortable shorts. |

How long have you been riding? How many times have you ridden for 2 hours? Have your bike been fitted to you? Is the seat level, and if not, have you tried it level? Have you talked with your LBS and asked them if they would loan you saddles to try? |

I have been riding again for about 6 months. I rode for 6 years in high school and college but quit in dental school because I ran out of time and it had been like 10 years since I rode seriously. Now riding for me is just for excercise I ride for at least an hour 4-6 times per week, Yes I got fitted, Seat is level, Yes I have tried many different saddles. The thing is I am not racing, I think that if most people would admit they are not racing they would be more comfortable riding. I like the cover and I have not found a saddle that is more comfortable without it. how long have you been riding? How many times have you ridden for 2 hours? Have your bike been fitted to you? Just to clarify, are you getting a muscular pain or sore skin? If it is skin, there is more than the saddle in the equation - a really good pair of shorts - Assos is one of many - worn directly on the skin (no underpants) and washed regularly makes a big difference. A hard but correctly shaped saddle can often be more comfortable than a soft thick "comfort" layer, which can get you slipping around and chafing. If the pain is muscular then I would go through the set up one more time - very important is the fore and aft measurement. Go to an expert and use level ground for the pendulum check. Your latin name does not indicate if you are a lady or a man. As we sit on the pelvic bones, ladies have a specific problem when chafing occurs - there are a few good specialist saddles out now for ladies. Whatever happens don't point the saddle up or down - this is avoiding the problem and dealing with symptoms. Good luck. B. |
