What's the furthest you've rode in one day? For me it's 106 miles, I've done plenty of centuries but next season plan to step it up and complete my first double .

Rode the Natchez Trace a few years ago. Did 130 miles on Saturday, then 170 on Sunday. The last 50 without food (a real learning experience there). By the last 10 miles we were looking in the ditch for a discarded MCDonalds bag or something. I WOULD have eaten its contents at that point. no joke. www.the-bike-shop.com/training

180 km = 112 miles! No problem with company, but a bit boring alone!

83 miles , when I was using cleats. My right knee became so sore, I had to quit. I have since used SPD's , maybe this year I can cycle a century which has been a long term goal....

Well ive done it 3 times now. deffinitely the best week of my summer break. This summer was especially good, not too much rain and very mild temps. Usually people start leaving the towns around 5 am just to beat the heat but this year it was cold in the mornings. The first day it was around 45 when i left at 6:30am. It took me 25 miles to get warmed up in only a jersey and shorts. The highlight of this year was a brand new section of blacktop, like 2 days old. 33 miles of it. It took me and a friend an hour and 2 minutes to complete the 33 miles. Best road ive ever ridden on. We werent passed by anyone that entire time, and when we stopped to rest after the new pavement we realized that 18 people had been sucking wheel the entire time.
Freeloaders.

Deffinitely try to come out for it next summer.

I hear it is one continuous party. Do most people camp out? Do they transport your tent and stuff???

For about 75% of the riders it is a continous party. The rest is serious riders out there hammering the entire day like I do. There are around 300 RAGBRAI "teams" - basically just people getting together and buying a bus to transport all their stuff around. Thats how most of the stuff gets from town to town. Everyone on the team rides, and one guy drives the bus to the next town. The riders basically take over the overnight towns, so you camp wherever you find grass if your not on a team. Although there is one "official campground" for the bigger teams, with reserved spaces, showers, and things. I go with the DMCC team out of Des Moines, IA. We usually have about 70 riders for the week. The club rents 3 huge rider trucks to haul the baggage to each overnight town. You arrive at the overnight town, find the camp, put up your tent, shower, go out and see the town, go do things, go to sleep, get up, pack your bag and tent, put bag and tent in truck, ride to next town usually about 80 miles away. Repeat. Thats RAGBRAI

158 miles from Earp, CA to 29 Palms across the Mojave Desert. It was one of the last legs of my cross-country trip. I was alone and did the ride at night to avoid the heat of the day. Under the stars with no city or town lights to detract from the sky, it was one of the most mystical journeys I have ever taken.
