At the moment going off my figures i can't see my self finishing a 10m TT and considering i could do 20min 10's when i was 40. Had we had Powertaps then i might have been quicker who knows but its a case of training smarter now and something i never used to do was rest.
So fingers crossed !

At track it was 75+ this year.

I must admit while I admire those guys, they are also at greatly increased risk if there are falls, which is common in racing.

One elderly gent rider here several months ago at training slipped off the track in training going a little too slow - he wasn't high up, just in sprinter's lane (I was there) but the fall broke a hip and 6-8 weeks later he died of complications arising.

This is amazing. I just finished reading this huge thread recently over the course of a few weeks after seeing it referenced by many a poster. My head was left spinning with dissipointment over the way it ended, but now I cheak back into it and it is back and potentially better then ever!!

This thread reads like a noval with pleanty of rich charicters and locations. While in Las Vegas recently I gazed onto the heights of RDO's Mt. Charleston and was much more impressed with it then any of the man-made casinos.

Default 1 Hour TT, for distance not power

...but getting paid to do it!

Something called the Inside Ride (a cancer fighting charity) is coming to our school thanks to the efforts of some leadership students. The general idea is that they bring the bikes and the trainers, and that teams of six fundraise and then compete for the furthest distance in an hour. Well, the students involved know my obsession, and just asked if I'd be interested in being a one-person team.

Let's see...I get a one hour FTP workout done at work and I'm doing them a favour?

Sometimes life is good. Do you think they'll understand my need for a 20 minute cooldown, shower and recovery meal before i go back to my class?

Default So lets get this started already...

I am the guy with the herniated disc and sciatica so not much from me this year so lets get the goals started and the reports coming...atleast before the epidural wears off.

Also hope KO_pride can make a return...too busy praying for his phillies.

Ok. Let's get started....

Age 43
Years Riding 39
Years Racing 5 or 6
Weight 70 kg
est FTP 270 watts
Goal Is this even an option? 300, right?

I'll be riding the 2008 Tour de France on my Computrainer again this off-season. It may not fit in well with a specific program of SST/L4/2 * 20s, but I definitely get quality riding in, and it keeps me motivated. Last year I started early November and barely finished before indoor season ended in March.

This year I started in early October. I'm 90 km into Stage 5 so far. The Cat 2 climbs start in Stage 6 (remember Super-Besse?)

I'm back as well. Cheers Tyson.

JS, hope you're feeling better. Between work and a nasty infection post vasectomy, I had a very dificult early fall--bike wise. One of my trusty riding buddies also broke his collarbone so I'm behind at least 6-8 weeks from where I was in August.

I'm a cynical Philadelphian after seeing the Phillies lose to the hated Yankees but this thread, even when it devolved into some bit of wishful fantasy, was still the marquee thread of the forum. It will be fun seeing the progress.

As for me this year is out of the question but that is a long painful story that I hope to end in the next few mos or so. Glad to hear you are back on your bike and sorry for your friend. Hope nothing too bad.

Tell me which thread you like to stick too...

Well, given the mixed history of this thread, its hard to stay away. So I'll post in this one and the 2 busy thread. The weight loss quest fortunately is not a problem for me. If a particular poster is reporting incredible hard to believe weight losses, I will hold my tongue this time. Live and Let live and all that.

Well folks, yesterday I went to do my first set of 2x20-min TTIs for some time.
306W & 307W.

Details here:
Alex's Cycle Blog: Yowser!!!

Compared to pre-accident best 2x20 training, on a W/kg basis:

Jan 2007: 3.97 W/kg *
Nov 2009: 3.93 W/kg

* That is, by the way, after adding 2% to the 2007 power numbers as I was using a Powertap then, and a calibrated SRM now (to account for drivetrain losses). I have in recent months done several rides with both meters on the bike and was consistently getting a power difference of around the 2% mark (ranges between 1-3% depending on ride, and also between average power (smaller difference) and normalised power (larger difference).

Of course I now have to do this "routinely" before I consider it to be a sign of a new FTP.

95-98% pre accident level...are there any issues or does it feel like before the accident? Also do you train the same as before the accident?

That awesome Alex.

quick question, I am reading Friel's bible. The "zones" (1-7) are the same as "levels" I think. Is there a % difference in these concepts?

Thanks,
-Greg

It doesn't "feel" the same in the sense that you know you have a prosthetic on one side - and at times it can hurt a bit, or create issues with skin. Sometimes it feels pretty good, other days it's annoying and sometimes it hurts.

The biggest issue is forces are now being transmitted via the skin around the stump, and not via the bones to the sole of your foot. So if the fit is not quite right, then you can have problems with skin breaks (e.g I have a small ulcer on inside of leg which has been there for months - only way to heal it is to not use either of my legs for 4-7 days, which isn't terribly practical). To get the fit right, I have to pad the stump with socks and special pieces of foam, and it can require different thicknesses from day to day and even during a ride.

The other issue is sweat, which accumulates inside the liner. Sometimes I have to stop and drain it. I've developed techniques that allow me to stay on bike and drain a lot of it. It's different every day I ride as well.

As for training, the principles of training don't change, so in essence, yes, I train the same as before, just takes into account my level of fitness and training loads. I have made some modifications to my approach. for example, and especially earlier on in my comeback, I did a lot more work on my T7 ergobike.

In fact, at times my training loads have ramped faster than before.
