Improved sprint and anaerobic power. I am also trying to understand the physiology better.
ALSO I read a couple good articles that said that working on anaerobic power really improves aerobic power. This is interesting to me as I have only 8-10 hours a week to train due to job and family.

Well, he does play one on TV.

one of the points to bear in mind with the first paper is that the people being trained were moderate fitness.

lots of people only have ~8 - 10 hrs/week to train and can be quite handy. it's all about getting the right mix of training for your goal events (which i don't know what they are). carefully planning your training and not arsing around in the lanes taking it is easy is one key point to remember (not that there's anything wrong per se with arsing around in the lanes taking it easy, it just doesn't do much for bike racing fitness).

to improve your sprint, you can do various sprint sessions. i prescribe some of these alone (to work on fitness) and others in a group (to work on skill and tactics).

one of the 'anaerobicy' sessions i like to do, is about 6 weeks prior to racing i like to do 30-sec hill intervals as hard as i can. I then ease up and recover for about 10-mins and repeat, until i've had enough (which is probably after the first one ) or do quite a few 30-secs on/30-secs off at full bore. (obviously in the latter scenario by the time you've completed a few of them your power has dropped dramatically, and the intervals are becoming very aerobic in nature. of course, i can then grovel home and demand that my wife looks after me, and makes me something to eat, while i remain a strange shade of green and look ill).
