I had a similar problem caused by a mass of necrotic (dead) tissue that built up around a previously infected area due to a nasty saddle sore. The skin around the area was not broken, but I could feel and see a large sized lump that became increasingly swollen after several weeks of 20+ hrs. training. Finally when the pain became unbearable, I went to the surgeon. He removed a golf ball size of tough tissue from my ischial tuberosity (sit bone) region. You should probably go see a doctor and have it checked out. If you do need surgery to remove the mass, it will mean several weeks of absolutely NO RIDING in order to let the area heal properly.
Good luck

I took almost a week off and I've only done much shorter rides since then, b/c each time I can feel the same pain as if it would get worse if I'd continue to ride longer. The ride during which I first noticed this pain had 2 huge hills and I was trying hard to keep my cadence high.
Has anybody else experienced this? Is this a cause for concern? Did I simply not take enough time off after the first injury? Would a more streamlined race-type saddle eliminate this or make it worse b/c less support? I am not getting chafing at all but the pain is internal more like right next to the bone itself.
I am a new convert to road biking this year, coming from MTB, and the uncertainty about this pain has really made me reticent to ride more. If anybody can give tips of what may have triggered this and how I can heal and alleviate it from happening again I would really appreciate it.
Thanks
