Is it a good idea to do some VO2max 5x5 workout after a morning race which lasts about 1 hour and 20 minutes??? I have 5 weeks before my targeted race. I would like to work on my VO2max power for 2 to 3 weeks, and 1 week before the event. Also, should my training week incorporate threshold work 2x20 if I am working on VO2max power as well????

I dug up a thread from TiMan. If I understand correctly, I should be block training my vo2max power 2 to 3 days in a row, for 2 to 3 weeks. In that case I should cut out my 2x20 threshold work. I think the morning race should provide enough threshold workout. Quote:

Let me preface my response by saying I'm no expert or coach, but IME your racing should take the place of an L5 workout, not an L4 w/o. Racing (again IME) is moreso a collection on/off efforts and not sustained like L4 work is. I don't know the nature of your target race, but in general I would continue with at least one L4 w/o per week tapering down from 2x20 to probably 2x10 the week before your target race. |

Look on the bright side. BlueJersey never got a response, so better late than never. |
