It can't be too much of an indicator of fitness. I was watching the 2005 Tour de France DVDs yesterday and the announcers were reciting a bunch of statistics on the riders. They said the average pro peloton RHR was 50 bpm. I was a bit surprised. Mine's been 38-44 for as long as I can remember. It really doesn't mean much, nor does max HR, per se: a high MHR with a low stroke volume gets you nowhere. |
