Default Double Workouts

Just wondering what some of the benefits may be for doing double workouts?

I have been doing them 1-2 times a week. Either an easy recovery effort or a moderate tempo with a few good jumps. The first workout is in the mid morning hours (25-45 miles), followed with a harder group ride effort in the early evening of 35-50 miles. Some hills, hard group pace line, and moderate tempo all mixed together.

I listen to my body and back off as I deem necessary.

Appriciate any comments and feedback,

[QUOTE=likes to ride]Just wondering what some of the benefits may be for doing double workouts?

I have heard of others doing this. I did one similar last year, went out in the morning and did a 10 mile TT effort, came back out the afternoon and did a 3 hour group ride. I felt tired at first, but the legs opened up and I felt great after the fact. I am sure that it can work, it would just need to be something that would compliment each other, such as endurance in the morning, 3-4 hours, with maybe a shorter intense ride in the afternoon, followed by a day of not doing a double. This would need to be monitored like you said, and your body can tell you, but sometimes your brain will tell you too late.

I do races like this all the time, race a TT in the morning followed by a Crit or Circuit race in the afternoon evening, and it usually does not have an adverse effect on me, but that is with doing nothing but trying to recover the best I can between events.
