Follow up. Got an ultrasound and no damage was found. After much discussion the PT declared this to be a nasty muscle spasm brought on by overuse and perhaps some dehydration. When I told him I just started fencing and was using short spin sessions and 20 minute runs as warmups for fencing class he revisited the overuse theme. I was able to spin last night with minimal and decreasing pain, although the spasm returned with a vengeance after class. Thanks to all who posted for your input.
