Cool. You said above that 2x20 @ 245 was a *pretty hard* ride just last Thursday.

You don't, by chance, have you PT set up to not record power while coasting do you?

Do the PT's have a problem with water?

Just curious.

Early PT and PT Pro models sometimes had water issues that could be taken care of with a bit of dielectric grease on the hub cover and possibly the CPU cradle. SL and newer units seem to have much less trouble (I've gotten soaked like a drowned rat in afternoon thunderstorms around here that didn't cause any data dropouts with stock SL units, no grease) but if you ride in the rain a lot the dielectric grease is probably a good idea. I've also heard of folks covering their CPU with a plastic bag held in place with a rubber band but I've never tried that or needed it.

Just curious... Was thinking about a future purchase - most probably the wireless SL.

Just my opinion but I would not go wireless. All the items I ever bought wireless for my bike or my audio always have some issues. When they work they are wonderful but honestly the little hassle one wire will give me is not worth all the hassles the wireless device gives me. Again just my own personal experience...

The few times I had trouble with drop outs and water, a couple dabs of vaseline jelly on it and it worked fine. It is just a pain in the neck when you are not sure which set of batteries you need to change so I always end up changing them all to play it safe.

since you mentioned it.. how do I change hub batteries of Powertap? I'm not able to open it by hand, do I require some kind of tool or maybe I should try harder? I've not tried very hard because don't want to make damage

I was thinking the same thing, but after my last crash I can't boast about my downhill speeds anymore. I'd hope that I would be a bit faster at least on some of those straighter sections.

I would be mainly interested to see how well I could endure the climb.

My Polar CS600 works great - speed and cadence sensors have never given me any problems. My reason for wanting the wireless is that when I'm on the trainer the entire front of the bike is covered by a huge towel and my Polar is off to the side on a little stand, where my drink is. I'd like to do that with the PT if I get one...

... plus that always opens up the option of getting a Zipp disk with PT should I start time trialing again.

With the newer PT they include a strange looking plastic tool to help open it. At first I didn't know what it was. Even with the tool sometimes it is a pain to get the hub cover off. I tighten the hub cover by hand now, and only use the tool to unscrew it.

I have a yellow PT Pro, and the hub cover will unscrew if you get a good enough grip on it. I was able to get mine open by taking an old inner tube and wrapping it tightly around the outside of the hub cover several times for grip. By wrapping the tube counterclockwise it tightened itself as I tried to unscrew the cap and gives pretty good grip and leverage.

Well based upon your other thread it sounds like you will be getting back to TT soon enuf. I am glad that your ailements may be coming to an end soon. I hate docs and dread hospitals. To be honest I owe one thing to hospitals, cycling and my weight training. I did some working out in my twenties but once I had surgery and caught a bad cold in the hospital about 5 years ago, I decided I will never go back to a hospital again. The nurses and other people there treat you like a pain and slab of meat...I will never go back!

On the wireless choice, when I did have a wireless device, when it worked, it worked well but when it lost signal....

Maybe I have a really old one but I just use an allen key...I do not know the size off hand but pretty simple. Remove the two screws and the cap comes off...the pain in te a$$ part is the weird size batteries keep wanting to pop out before you get the hub back on so I need to be quick!

I am thinking the same way and the downhill should be a good test also.

It seems that the locals though are not happy with the cyclists though. Those tours should be careful about who they have do the ride.
