I want to train for a bikeride in the springtime and can't train on the road because of snow...Does anyone know a great trainer model that gives the same feel or close to it..

I use a Minoura Magturbo, and I think it's pretty effective. My cruising speed rose from a measly 26 kph to an OK 35 kph in several months of training mostly on the trainer.

Check out my website for information on the Tacx I-Magic virtual reality turbo trainer.

I've had mine for roughly 2 months and still feel motivated enough to use it for 60+ mins at a time. Much better (but more expensive) than a conventional trainer. You can 'race' against other peoples efforts.

That looks pretty cool. Quite expensive for the average South African though, considering the Exchange rate. Still, I would'nt mind having one.

The ones that you've to remove your front-wheel ain't good at all for your bike, it makes your frame soft and weak. Can split in half if you'er unlucky.

Yeah, but you hook it up to your video game system!!!  (that was really my point).

That's pretty neat, but honestly, it isn't a patch on the Tacx I-Magic .Up until a few years ago, technology as advanced as the I-Magic would have cost well over £1000 (translate into your currency )

I use a Giant TCR2 on my trainer, I am confident the bike isn't being harmed in any way. Although the front wheel is held in a clamp (I have the optional steerer unit), it is allowed some movement.

I doubt if I'll use it much when it comes into the British summer, but there will always be bad weather days after a long day at the office when 45 minutes on the trainer is more appealing than getting prepared to go out on the roads  :-[
