I've been reading various threads (in the Cycling Training forum) about strength (usually) not beeing a limiter for cyclists. (ie there is no need for cyclists to gain additional mucsle mass). I don't know much about doping in general or HGH in particular, but why are riders from time to caught with HGH and steroids, aren't these substances that stimulate muscle growth? Or do they also stimulate some aerobic adaptions in the body? |

Yep, pros ride a tough schedule and need all the help they can with recovery between events. A slight increase in leg strenght can't hurt either. Most cyclist dont take enough of a dosage of steroids (most cyclist take 100-300mg/week while bodybuilders consider a gram or more/week the minimum) to really gain alot of muscle. Diet and the way you workout (you gotta go to the gym and lift heavy to get big) also play a large part in how much muscle you gain.
