Default Ice Shavers that produce shaved ice, not snow cones?

I'm looking for an ice shaver that will make fluffy shaved ice, not
pebbly ice like you get in a slush or a carnival snow cone. There's a
local business that sells gourmet shaved ice and I've gotten SO addicted
to the texture of real fluffy "snow".

I don't care about ice molds vs. ice cubes. I would prefer an electric
machine to a manual because I have limited hand strength. Cheaper is
always better, but I will always pay more for quality.

I've seen people recommend Hawaiian Shaved Ice and the Rival machines
(both available at Wal-Mart) but the results on the boxes look just as
pebbly as the snow cone machines and I hate to try out and use an
appliance if I'm doubtful it's going to even be close to what I want.

Have anyone of you bought one of these recently from Wal-Mart or another
store and care to comment on your experience?

to get the fluffy stuff, you will need to get an ice shaver that uses frozen
'blocks' of ice (they come with molds to make the right shape for your
shaver). you will have lots of fun adjusting the blade to get just the
fluffiness you desire, but once adjusted and tightened down, it's set.
look at http://www.fernsnutrition.com/hawaiice.html - that's the one i have,
and i absolutely love it. i got extra molds so i would always have plenty
of ice waiting for me.

I have a rival one - it doesn't seem pebbly to me. It uses a razor blade to
shave the ice. You put the ice in the top - push the button which spins the
ice around over the razor and out comes shaved ice.

I bought the Hawaiian shave ice last year. I thought it was way too
chunky and coarse but I was pushing to hard. The light the push on the
ice block the lighter and fluffier your snow. I love mine. I pour
sugar free Tang on mine and stir it up to a slush. I dont add the 6
cups of water either to the dried powder. I use 4 cups. YUM!!!!!!!!!!

I found it at Walmart for just a short time. Crystal light now has one
that tastes just like Tang too but I drank it all and forgot the name
of it. Look in the juice section of WAalmart. BTW our Walamrt does not
have the grocery store. Thanks, Laureen

Two items....same general topic:

1. I agree on the Rival machine. My ice comes out pretty fluffy (my
ice-maker produces the little hemispherical cubes).

2. Our stores here in Florida have both the SF Tang and the Crystal
Light orange, although I confess that I've never used them in
Sno-Cones. Try the Wal Mart Supercenters....I've seen both products
there.

From da beach,

Myron

I bought one of the old fashioned machines that looks like a snow cone cart.
It is not as fluffy as the local Tropical Snow place. I have been eating so
much ice!!!(Anemic I know). I wish I had one that would make it fluffier
though.

I have one from Pampered Chef. It uses blocks of ice and can be
adjusted for texture. Unfortunetly it's a hand crank.. not hard to use
though. In a pinch I've used ice cubes instead of the block of ice and
gotten a much courser grind. Maybe blocks are key?
