Default I was not let into the pool with my swimming trunks!

Hay I thought you might find this picture intrusting I
I recently was over seas in Czechoslovakia visiting my family. We went
out to get sum exercise in the local swimming pool when to my surprise
I was not let into the pool with my swimming trunks!
When I was asked for the reason they kindly explained that this rule of
tight Lycra (Speedo type) swimming trunks for men has help keep the
pool drastically cleaner later I was told that this is the rule in
almost all of Europe! Now is it that we in the US don't car about our
cleanliness (hygiene) or it's just not moral enough for our standards
Any way luckily I had my camera and thought it would be interesting to
show this pack home.

All Europe? - I don't think so. That's thier rule. I know many pools
in Germany where trunks are allwed.

In olden days in American we had to shower before we jumped in the
pool. The worst thing today are the hairballs caused by the many
long-haired girls who swim without bathing caps. Such vamps. The
pool I swim in has large hair balls on the bottom of the deep end
waiting for the vaccuum cleaner that moves around like Nu Nu.
Naturally, the huge bathing suits the guys wear and leave to dry in
their lockers are mold-ridden which makes the water even yuckier.
Allergists hate swimming pools. Viva la Czechoslovakia for trying to
make the world a bit healthier by flying in the face of fashion.

Thats interesting. I'm not sure its neccesary, but interesting.
Simply enforcing a shower policy would make an enormous difference in
most pools. Where a lifeguard there's constantly a ring of dirt at
water level just from sweat and dirt washing off bodies when they jump
in. Its pretty gross.

And don't forget the top 15% (I think, I'd have to get my lifeguard manual
out to check) of a pool is various substances such as body fat, sweat,
urine, mould etc. You name it, it's probably there at the level of the
water that you swim in!

I like the idea of banning trunks, though, because it has the effect
(perhaps intended) of turning the tables on childish guys who point and
smirk and make silly comments like "Banana hammock alert!"

This is the rule in France, too. Trunks are forbidden in every public
swimming pool. You will see this sign everywhere.

I have no problem with this rule. The bad news is that swim caps are
becoming mandatory in many pools (depending on local management decision, as
opposed to the trunk ban, which is a national rule), and I hate to swim with
a cap...

Long ago, in my high school, any suit at all was banned for the guys;
ugly gray suits were mandatory for girls; caps were required for all.
Red cap: can't swim. Blue cap: can swim. White cap: good swimmer. Need
I add that the boys and girls did not swim together? Another rule of
the times: menstruating girls did not swim. When their name was called,
they reported *regular* from the benches. Those of us who were
embarrassed by our immaturity and wanted badly to swim were deprived by
the need to pretend and announce an untrue *regular*. As far as I know
there was only one such immature girl. A white capper, too.

How old are you????? From your story you must be at least 99. Did girls
try to spy the boys swimming?

I am approximately 99, yes. No, we did not try to spy. We would have
screamed and run away. Actually, we thought nothing of it. That's the
way it had always been all over Chicago. I think it was a city
ordinance, but I don't really know that. Maybe it still is?

I'm not quite as old as Ruth. Not yet, anyway. But my mother told me
the same format was also normal in her part of Michigan. That would
have been in the mid-1940's.

Hi. I am from Poland. Here it's the rule that you are not allowed to
swim in trunks or without a cap...

Here is where this discussion may start to degenerate, but.......for
the well enhanced, wouldn't the lack of a swimsuit create a disavantage
during races?
It could also be an advantageous training tool, since the not so well
enhanced cannot put on swimsuits to create drag.

I guess that without Larry there isn't anthing more serious to talk
about.

I just love when discussions degenerate. That's when I come back and
start enjoying r.s.s. There was a wonderful time some years ago when
r.s.triathlon was a hotbed of total degeneration, easily the best
newsgroup I've ever seen. Granted that's only about 7 or 8.

Back to your question. The lack of a suit is a definite aid for those
men who have trouble swimming straight.

p.s. Ross: yes, that's the era.
