Long ago, in my high school, any suit at all was banned for the guys;
ugly gray suits were mandatory for girls; caps were required for all.
Red cap: can't swim. Blue cap: can swim. White cap: good swimmer. Need
I add that the boys and girls did not swim together? Another rule of
the times: menstruating girls did not swim. When their name was called,
they reported *regular* from the benches. Those of us who were
embarrassed by our immaturity and wanted badly to swim were deprived by
the need to pretend and announce an untrue *regular*. As far as I know
there was only one such immature girl. A white capper, too.
