Hi all, out of intrest what legal supplements that can be purchased out of shops help to enhance performance like illegal supplements, if there is any at all. What im intrested in is looking for is a supplement that perhaps someone has tried that has made a marked diffrence to their performance. I realise a good diet with all the nutriants goes a long way to staying healthy but sometimes its good to experiment.so what have you guys tried and how good was it? cheers nath |

[be to be honest i have often wonderd about caffiene, i normally use high five energy drink, which is not bad, but i did once use a product called Viper by Maximuscle which nis a mixture of carbs and caffiene. When i was into a long ride say after about three to four hours i could feel that stuff in my system, i felt more alert and not so fatigued. Its just the price of it that is not good unfortunatly. cheersthe best enhancement.[/QUOTE] |

Off the top of my head I would say only caffeine and creatine are supported by studies. Caffeine is helpful in endurance activities because it helps mobilize free fatty acids for fuel thus sparing carbohydrate. Caffeine also helps fight central fatigue. Creatine is really for short (20-60 seconds) high intensity activities. Probably most helpful in short track events, maybe intervals, and in the gym during winter training. Creatine is just fuel and will therefore help you train a little harder for a little longer. There aren't long term studies describing the possible damage to kidneys that may result from creatine use. Due to this possibility I wouldn't recommend it. There's really no substitute for proper training, adequate rest and hydration, and a well balanced diet.
