Default Am I an endorphin junkie?

A male friend from a fitness forum lovingly (?) calls me his little endorphin junkie friend. Am I?

I use my recumbent stationary bike 75 mins a day the last 15 mins I go at really high intensity just to get that rush that comes at the end. Sometimes I get high on it so fantastically that I can't wait till the next day to get that rush again.

Is there any harm in being addicted to this? I mean, its not like I'm on drugs or anything!

Yesterday my stationary bike broke down as I almost finished the really intense last part of the "ride". I totally freaked out...felt the way guys must feel when a woman is turning them on and then walks out (lol)! My daughter finally figured out what was wrong (the chain inside the bike came off), but it took so long to fix it after taking the bike apart that I;'d cooled down by then and couldnt get back into the groove for the last few mins to get that "high". I just decided to wait and get the fix today instead.

I suppose I could be shooting crack or something else to get high, but this is better....healthier...and free!

Buy a bike if you are able to ride one.

I didnt know if your post was directed to me or someone else, but I own two bikes and use them for all errands, doctor appts., etc Thios is in addition to the exercise bike. I dont drive or own a car, and live in the burbs, so the bike is how I get around.

it is possible to become addicted to the endorphin release that accompanies exercise. it is no different to other addictions. eg u can get withdrawl symptoms if u miss the "runners high" as it is also called.

I hear you...I say that because I notice
on the days I dont do the exercise bike, I often go into a deep blue funk where I feel lousy mentally.

your addiction to the endorphin rush is not a problem - unless it begins to effect your ability to balance all other areas of your life that require your attention.

ie work, family, finances etc,etc.....

in this sense it is no different to any other addiction.

Well, I do tend to schedule my day events around my exercise time in the morning...for instance I dont make any appoiintments in the AM time when I know I will be exercising...is that a bad sign?

its not a bad sign. thats just scheduling. something bad would be getting angry and taking it out on other people if you missed a session. then getting more and more sullen and withdrawn from the outside world. eventually hating riding but still feeling you have to do more and more. thats what i would call addiction. at the moment u are fine.
