The weather has been pretty good so I decided to go for a long (for me) ride - 50 miles.

By half way it was pretty uncomfortable. Sweat being the reason, when I got home the wife said I should try Sudocream (it's the baby cream for nappy rash) and the result is excellent.

I've also been reading earlier posts in this thread and wondered if anybody had any updates on what's the best stuff to put on BEFORE I go out on a ride.

Lazarus, the best stuff I reckon is called 'Relief'.  You normally have to ask for it in the bike shop.  It isn't the kind of stuff they have on the shop window... It's good stuff and I haven't had any wierd problems since I started using it... I ultra cautious now after having had problems in that area before.

I also got the advice that Aqueous cream helps, but shortens the life of your chamois.

I've had a few saddle sores and find them most irritating, so you have my sympathy.
