I would not worry about ITB pain. My good friend is an orthopedic surgeon, his advice is to stretch it by standing with good leg crossed over front of bad and leaning into the injured side, keeping weight on good leg. This worked very well for me. He also said that rest was not neccessary.

That's funny.

I'm not too worried about various treatments for cancer either. However if I ever suffered from it that would be a much different story.

To clarify, the chances of long term permanent damage is minimal, unlike tendinitis or other afflictions. Streching aggresively will likely alleviate the pain quickly.
