whoo, just got back from takin the ol' komodo for it's first run. very pleased. the geometry is much more fitting than the specialized hard rock and i can tell the frame is much lighter. i still need to put lighter oil in the fork, but thats another story. i hucked some decent drops and im only gettin half the travel. anyway.. its sweet! oh yeah, lizard skins, greatest thing ever. i used to use electrical tape to protect the chainstay, but the 'skins dampen the chainslap nicely. |

i think the komodo retailed for 1700 last year. i bought the frame alone, and used most of the parts from my 04 hardrock. before i transferred the parts over, i upgraded the rear derailleur, front derailleur, upgraded it to 9 speed (cassette), shifter/brake levers, seatpost, added power grips, headset, aaaand.. thats it. i only paid $70 for the frame brand new and it retails $299. soo including the $600 hardrock, i spent about $200 + some assembly and tune up which equals about 900-1000. i got the hardrock as a gift, so ive only spent about 400 myself. hope that answers your question. keep in mind that the stock komodo came with full xt, z1 freeride fork, all around better components |
