Hei,

how should one then train the "right side", > 1 hour power? Somehow, I've understood that the 2, 3, 4 hour powers are some percentages of FTP, and while FTP is trained, the longer duration powers should increase as well?

You are correct, in that via CP, the durations greater than 1 hour are influenced by FTP, however, this does not mean that you can actually do these wattages.

My thought is that you should be doing SST (Sweet Spot Training ie. 88 - 92% of FTP) for extended periods of time to fill in the right side of the CP curve.

A great thing about SST is that it also helps build FTP.

Here is one of many posts...

TSS & IF versus training adaptions

I think of my NM number as 'potential' rather than any guarantee or barometer of actual performance right now. I also suspect other untrained people have put up very impressive numbers in this category - I can't recall but haven't studies revealed some untrained folks capable of even 22 w/kg for 5s?

RD mentioned this in another thread, but with as little training as I've had (3 months), 5s power is probably the only thing I could be particularly exceptional in right now.
Marty Nothstien was @ about 22wper kg when he won his silver medal in match sprint. and followed with two golds in the following olympics. 2200 watts @ 100 kilos. His words not mine
