Default Ergomo Workout file question

How many workout files does the ergomo pro support? When I workout I do 7 mile laps and then rest. So sometimes I split these workouts into several workout files on my Polar Power Meters. So does the ergomo have multiple workout file capability? Or is it just one big workout file that's nonstop recording (like the Powertap)? According to the manual, when the computer does not receive a signal for 3 minutes it then goes into sleep mode. So when you resume does it start a new workout file, resume, or does it overwrite your old data? If it's one big workout file can you split the workout data into laps with the supplied ergomo computer software? The manual does not say anything about workout files, so I hope someone who has one can help.

I'm thinking of getting a better power meter than my Polar ones but there's rumor going around that there's a new Polar Power Meter. Anyone have links to news of it? Or any info?

Didn't the revised ergomo pro come out in 2005? How come not many people use it here? It certainly seems more reliable that any Powertap and I decided not to get the Powertap because of the many posts complaining about Powertaps.

The ergomo pro is good for me because my left right pedaling balance varies from 48/52 to 51/49 (according to my Polar workout data().

The Ergomo allows you to reset the data without loosing it. I sometimes do this to get better readings on my avg power. However, when you upload it into Cyclingpeaks, it will show as one entry for the day. You can easily edit that file. When the Ergomo goes into sleep it will resume with the existing data (major difference to the Polar - I hated the fact that you can't stop for a cup of coffee without starting a new file..). You can also split the Ergomo into different laps. The function works really well as the computer shows you the avg power for each specific lap.

The Ergomo pro can store as many files as you can create as long as it fits within the total recording time interval. You can influence how much total time you get by changing the reporting rate. I'd have to go to my bike to check, but I believe I have mine set to 2 second reporting and I get roughly 24 hours of saved data before I have to worry about data being overwritten. As I understand it the data is stored in a circular buffer style memory so if you do over run the 24 hours your oldest data sets will be replaced with additional data.

You can also store intervals within any given data recording session. I don't know the upper limit on intervals per session but typically run 3 to 10 intervals per session without problems. These are nice because markers are placed in the file so you can view the intervals later and it's nice because you get power, hr, avg power and speed info for each interval as it runs and after you finish it which is displayed seperately from similar data for the entire file. It's a nice way to compare your average power from interval 3 to interval 9 to let you know if your power is falling off.

Anyway, If I understand your question. The Ergomo Pro has no trouble maintaining multiple sessions and will spawn a new session anytime the unit does not receive sensor data for more than a couple of minutes. In the normal case (less than 24 hours of data) you'll just get multiple files. If you don't upload and clear your Ergomo very often you could over run the memory and then the oldest data sessions are lost. Also note that you need to either clear the Ergomo from your computer after uploading data or use the back panel reset button to clear the memory. Clearing the trip settings clear the displayed averages but don't clear the stored memory.

Hope that helps,
Dave

Thanks for your replies. Can't wait to get the ergomo in January cause I'm not gonna be training much until then so I don't need it yet. Hopefully the units selling will be better by then. But I'm gonna be putting it on my CF Soloist Team so that will be my sweetest workout bike. This bike is too expensive to race on and I don't have much racing experience so I'd rather use my cheaper bike for racing if I give it a try.
