I recently got a new PowerTap SL+ and was surprised to find that the freehub body comes off so easily, i.e. with a gentle tug. It seems to be only held in place by the pressure of the quick release on the drop outs squeezing the hub together. The other day I removed my wheel and the outer bit just fell off onto the floor. Is all this normal or is there a bolt missing somewhere? Apart from this, the PT is working fine. |

Something doesn't sound right to me. No hub should just fall apart.

Here's a photo of the two bits that very easily slide off the axle. It can't fall apart when it's in the bike, but off the bike there's not much friction holding these three parts together. I already mentioned the outer/end piece falling off when I removed my wheel. Then the other day when I was changing the cassette, I removed the lock ring and then pulled the cogs and the whole free hub and cassette came off in one lump. I then had to press the free hub through the cassette to separate them. The free hub then dropped on the floor and the greasy part picked up some crap, so I wasn't happy about that. I also wonder how easily water might get inside. I have now done 600km on the new hub without any problems, so I guess it is "normal". |
