Thumbs up Re: LiveStrong Yellow Bracelets

This is definitly a fad, and I have been wearing one since before the tour when I registered for the "Ride for the Roses". I raised over $11,00 for LAF's Peloton Project, and next Friday I will be doing a bike ride with Lance and hopefully having dinner as well. Everyone that donated $50 or more received a braclet from me to wear while we ride for cancer research. I have lost many friends to cancer and I want to do everything possible to see more survivors! So, I won't be selling mine on E-bay, I work hard for a living!

Well I am from New Zealand and I ordered mine around two months ago and I still haven't recived them. Not that I am complaining because to be honest I don't really care when I get them as long as I do. I think that it is just so awesome that LAF have to back order and make more. I will wear mine for my mum who had breast cancer twice when I was 12. But she is still here!! I got charged $30.01 or something like that and I just ordered a 10 pack. So to ship all the way to NZ for that is ok.

The thing that really really annoyed me, im not sure if you have seen it, but sometimes in the forum on the adverts at the top of the page there are people selling what they call the same yellow braclet but with your name or sports club written on it. If you tell me that that has something to do with LAF then I would be happy, but I don't think it does does it?? I mean are these people just cashing in on the craze? Because if they are thats pretty damn sad!!

sportsgurlz, your comment about your mom gives me hope. A few months ago, they did a mammo on me and saw something they THINK MAY be cancerous. But I need to wait 6 months for another mammo for them to know for sure, to see if it changes. I never had a mammo before or they could have compared with that.

EVERYONE in my family who had cancer, died of it. Lance is the first person I'd ever heard of that lived, and now your mom too.

No. The package just turned up without any notification. I did get an email when I ordered them though to confirm my order and stuff. But nothing to tell me it was sent or on its way.

Can I ask why your display name thingy is Virenque? Is he your fav?

Oh honey im really sorry to hear that. Why do you have to wait 6 months? I think from what I remember of my mum, she had a mammo and then after they found the little spot or whatever they gave her an operation to take a sample of it. She didn't have to wait for another mammo. Why do you?

Although she found a lump in her breast before she ever had a mammo. She said that a mammogram is quite painfull to have. I hope that it wasn't too bad for you. My mum had chemo aswell as radiation and was fine. About 5-6 months after that it returned so she had a double mastectomy. She has been clear for 5 years now.

I live in a small town in NZ, the population is only about 4,000. Around 2 women every few of months are diagnosed with breast cancer here and only one has not survived. I know of many women who have had it and survived.
I have every hope that you will be 100% ok. And I wish you the very best of luck. I will have my fingers crossed for you! Please let me know how you go.

By the way, the quote that you use at the bottom of your posts I used in a speech I had to write for school. It was on the paralympic games and I used your quote as my conclusion. It worked really well!! Thanks

...and those who are selling them on through Ebay need to take a long hard look in the mirror.

I'd never had a mammo before and they had nothing to compare it with. They say they saw a "calcification" in the left breast in the outer upper quadrant (where 50% of all breast cancers are found). They said many women my age get calcifications but they need to make sure. In 6 mos they'll know if it changed any.

I've been assured that if they really suspected cancer, I'd have already been operated on. I'll let you know how it goes!

Hey cool! Welcome! This is your first post-were you scared?? I was of my first one!! Are you from New Zealand? Ok, you can't buy them in New Zealand but if you go to www.laf.org you will get onto the livestrong website and you can order them there. If your wrist is small get the youth size. It fits me and my mum easily. It cost us $30.77 to get them. I used a credit card with no probs.
I hope I am of some help to you! Good Luck
