Haha and it still won't help him. I just watched an documentaire about Armstrong. Mart smeets spook to him during this years dauphine, it was interesting. I'll post the link when it gets online!

Pfeiffer developed the first "swimming tunnel" to test swimmers in a water tunnel and is flogging these tunnels to China.
Craig Lord of the Sunday Times did a piece about this in early May 2005.

I honestly feel that no matter how much Jan trains for the tour, he won't win. He's too preoccupied with the whole beating Lance thing, that when Lance doesn't contend, Jan will be even further down in the rankings for waiting on Lance to make his move.

I am really looking forward to watching this years tour because I think there will be a lot of supprises. I think that the overall winner will be form one of the smaller teams and riders like Oscar Savilla will start to come back into form and do well. There are a lot of riders that showed promise in years past that seemed to fizzle out. I think we will see them make a big splash.

My two favorites for this years tour are Mayo and Savilla.

All I've ever seen Jan do is follow wheels until they ride away from him. He takes no chances and ultimately you can only be second doing that. I'd rather see a rider take the chance and crack than always be second.

This is Ullrich's problem. Godefroot is allowing talk of another leader even before the tour has begun. All talk should be of how they are going to support JU, even if he has a bad day or two.

Trouble now is that if Ullrich has one bad day Kloden and Vino will have the knives out that night. Ullrich might as well just ride on his own - as he basically has the last few years.

T-Mobile's Erik Zabel is using his unaccustomed free time this summer to think about his future. He acknowledged that the team had offered him a two-year contract, with continued employment after his active career. "I have a good offer from Olaf Ludwig," he said in a dpa interview. "I hope we can find a solution that will satisfy both sides."

He admitted that it was hard at first to accept the team's decision not to take him to the Tour this year. "I wanted to be part of the Tour team for Jan," he said. "But I could fully understand Walter Godefroot's argument when he said: If you're a water carrier, then you're not a sprinter any more."

After the German championships, third-place finisher Zabel said he would like to take 18 year-old winner Gerald Ciolek under his wing. "Maybe there's a chance for him to ride where I ride. I could help him."

The temperamental sprinter will follow the Tour on television, but only to a certain extent. "When it comes down to the last five kilometres in the sprint stages and my pulse is at 160 - then I'll probably turn the TV off." He will be guest commentator on the German TV broadcaster ARD, but "probably just the last weekend. It would be very difficult for me emotionally to comment on my sprinter colleagues in the first week."

And who's going to win that race in
France? "I don't want to make a prediction."

Defo a good watch...... I heard they are showing the Tour live on SBS this year ? Is this true ? France has a good rugby side... the aussies maybe troubled.... The French will scratch your eyes out if they start to lose......

You are very lucky having the ‘voice of cycling’ Phil Liggert doing your coverage.... we have to put up with EuroSh*t over here in the
UK with Sean Kelly..... they should prescribe this man to insomniacs....... oh dear.....

Hey WBT : Kelly gives great insights to the sport, he's not a continuity man but he always - always - calls the result correctly.

As regards France - they do try to scratch your eyes out - just ask the SA hooker Smit.
He nearly got his eyes taken out in Port Elizabeth last weekend.

Are you serious ? I just cant cope when there is a break occurring or someone of note is dropping off the pack and Kelly and co are talking about what they had for lunch on the previous day... its kills me.... I also cant cope when Mike Smith says something like..... "I think Basso is in trouble he is beginning to lose touch with the peleton..." he then pans to Kelly for his super comments and he says "Yes, um, I think, that, um Basso, um, is, um, losing, um, touch, um, er, um, with the, bunch, um, der, errr, yes, um...." zzzzzzzzzzzz

amazing insight !

The Safa's are way dodgy..... although the Kiwi's with there spear tackles are no better...... Go the Lions !

Hey, I love Phil and Paul but they are pretty funny. Two things you can count on with Phil and Paul: 1) If Phil predicts the winner of the stage during the stage, that rider will NOT win, and 2) Paul will spend at least 15 minutes during each mountain stage talking about Lance's cadence.

So true ! They love talking about Lance's cadence and then they crap on about Jan the 'big man from Germay' pulling the 'big gears' up the mountain.....

They are a good team the Phil and Paul show.... on Luz Ardiden in 2003 they just could not agree on how Armstrong fell..... Paul told Phil to shutup call the race and we will wait for the reply at the end of the stage... thrilling !

LOL! Very true: Phil is always good for one "look at Lance dancing on the pedals" and Paul for a reference to Ullrich as a "diesel engine".

That being said, I'm grateful to have them calling the races for the American audience. They actually know cycling from the old-school perspective. We were given a taste of the horrifying consequences of what is likely to happen when those two are no longer around, with the daily race program being "anchored" by Al Trautwig. Now, Al is a consummate professional, and a great anchorman for sporting events about which he has a clue. Cycling isn't one of them, and OLN was smart enough to go exclusively to Phil/Paul for the last segment of each stage.

LOL !! Love it ! Phil does a good job calling the sprints as well.... its hard to pick the riders when they are going that fast but he does a super job.....

Paul was good in 2003 for a: "look at them go Phil, there are attacking Armstrong like a automatic rifle, bang, bang, bang, there they go again, for the first time they feel his vulnerable...'

Awesome Paul....

WBT out.

WBT : some of the commentary does go off on a tnagent at ES, granted but rarely have I heard SK going on about food/hotels during the commentary.

If you read what a lot of non-Europeans say here : they never get ANY cycling TV coverage in their own countries.

I am grateful for any cycling coverage we do get.

Man, I agree with you there! I can remember being a young cyclist in the early 1980's with Phil Anderson as my hero trying to find out how he was going in the Tour and only being able to get day old results in the newspaper. There was rarely anything on the TV news about European Pro cycling. Times have changed in Australia and we are now getting every stage live so I am very grateful!
