He needs to test the knee sooner or later, if he truly believes it has recovered (and is not just almost recovered or partially recovered). Now, if he tests it and reinjures himself that would be bad, but not necessarily worse than if he tested it and reinjured himself closer to the Tour de France.

My picks for top 5: Paolo Salvodelli, Gonchar, Ullrich, Basso, Michael Rogers. If Ullrich's knee isn't bothering him, then he's #1, but I don't think so. The ITT is flat as a pancake, so it tends to favour the more powerful riders, so I think it won't be Basso winning it.

I believe that expectations for Ullrich are too high. He was in better shape at the beginning of last years Tour de France than he is now and then Lance passed him on the road. Ullrich has a big engine and so he can do a strong stint at the front of a TTT line. But in an ITT he won't have the chance to rest every couple hundred yards and his conditioning will play a much bigger factor. I don't expect Jan to do well tomorrow.

Basso is a man who is in the prime of his career and in the top of his condition. I can't see anything but a top three placement for him. No 1 is a good possibility.

If Savoldelli has no problem with allergies he should also do very well. Otherwise, who know?

I think that there will be at least three or four unexpected riders in the top 10 tomorrow.

Im going with a tight one between Rogers and Savoldelli, with Basso in a good 3rd place.

Yes, Basso is a great climber, but he is not a great TT'er. Ullrich is but his knees been bothering him. All due respect to Armstrong, but Ullrich went through a car window and almost died (the cut was close to major arteries in the neck) just before his ITT last year. He wasn't riding at his best then. I don't think Basso will take 1st tomorrow. Gonchar or Salvodelli or Rogers.

Good. We've put our reasoning on the table and tomorrow will bring the resolution.

What I meant to say was Ullrich cam damn close to death, fortunately the cut wasn't through his jugular. I still think Ullrich could get top 3 tomorrow, but not first.

It will be very interesting to see how the main contenders perform.
Will Savoldelli try to recoup lost time and go all out for the win?
Will Basso try to extend his lead?
TT'ists Gonchar and Rogers and Ullrich could look for the stage win.

My prediction?

Kiss of death goes to Michael Rogers
ummm we already had a thread on this topic going for 2 days.
The server is always busy when I try to log in so maybe that why you didnt see this.
Pretty slacker for a moderator I'd say.

My kiss of death goes to Ullrich, which ensures that he won't win. Sorry Jan.
2nd Rogers, then Basso, Savoldelli & Gonchar.

In which way? Good or bad?

I hope Ivan will extend his lead but I'm not going to predict...
