I believe he will win it. I think his strongest rivals will be Rogers and Savoldelli. I think Der Jan will be in the top 10 but not in the top 5. Look for Gutierrez and Shumacher as well. I would not be surprised to see DiLuca really turn himself inside-out and do something special.

Anyone know what is up with Julich? I would normally pick him as a favourite for such a flat TT, but he seems right out of it this Giro.

Just a thought: If Ullrich beats Basso in this ITT then Basso is screwed for the Tour de France. An out of shape Ullrich besting a Basso who is on top form? What happens when Ullrich is on top form then? I don't think that Ullrich will beat Basso however.

Basso said this morning:

"I think he will be in the top 3. This is a good time trial for Jan. I think Jan is in really good condition. Of course he is not here to win the Giro, but for the Tour de France tomorrow is a good test for him."

I also think Gutierrez is in with a chance of a top three..... he is a darkhorse and rides for Phonak so must be getting some help from the chemical department...

I just heard the Italian commentators refer to Jan as "Der Kaiser Jan." Please tell me this is just how Italians refer to Germans, and that the commentators haven't picked up on the nickname as well.

I believe the second statement to be accurate.

Holy s%$t! What a good ride by Jan. let's just hope that knee doesn't swell up tonight. Now all he has to do is ride tempo and take a couple of flyers in the mountains, and he'll drop the necessary weight.

Good ride from Der Kaiser Jan. Will be interesting to see how much time the other big TT guns can put into him.

Ullrich 58'48" for 50kms - he looked very impressive.

It the climbs that irritate the knee.As long as he doesn't strain trying to turn the bigs gears there he should be fine.
