That time is great but not super... Basso & Co will come close...

In other news, Rujano lost over 2 minutes at the first time check. He should just go back to focusing on the mountains jersey, IMO.

Daily peloton commentary: "Simoni is 2' 09" at the 14.5km checkpoint. That is not good."

Good ride by Jan, seems on course for July. Will be interesting to see the difference between an off form Ulle and an on form Basso, especially considering that Jan stated he was not out to win the stage. Very disappointing time from Rogers. Thought he would be at least top 5, even first with an outside chance. Thought he would beat Jan today but he's 3:20 down on his teammate..

Velonews commentary: Savol " hits the 14.5km mark 1:05 down from Ullrich's, doing it at 18:35"

Rogers has been at the dentist for the last two days... not a good time but has some serious issues with this teeth... Il Falco has some serious issues with his heart... he has none !

Cyclingnews shows it 1:05 down from Waulters, 0:59 down from Ullrich. It's just seconds, of course...

"Cunego is past 14.5 km in 20'08, 2'38 off the pace of Wauters. Well, he's slower than Gibo and Pellizotti at the moment. That's surprising, actually. He's already lost one and a half minutes to Savoldelli."

The typical level of partisan stupidity that frequently appears in this forum. See last year's Giro for a rebuttal to this laughable statement.

"Gonchar has been the best of the GC favourites so far, with 18'16 at 14.5 km."

Strange.
The wind has blown up again and they have a bigger headwind in the first 25km than eariler in the day.... but should be a stronger tailwind the in the last 25km..... they should be quicker at the turnaround....

"His [Basso at first check] time is 18'11, which is the best of the favourites, and is the 12th best so far. He's put 5 seconds into Gonchar, two minutes into Cunego, 1'30 into Pellizotti, 15 seconds into Gutierrez, and about 1'20 into Gibo and Di Luca."

Hmm. Basso doing well against Savo/.

yeah I mean Jan is great but it looks like the wind is really killing people, but the rule of thumb is
if you have to fight a headwind all the way out, you will not make up the lost time because you will be so shot from the first 30 minutes of effort that no tailwind will recoup the losses.

Same reason Jan beat Lance in the ITT in Sydney, start times...
