That's exactly what I thought at the time. It's not enough to win the Tour. Lance set the standard. You have to win it and have a "story" as well. Floyd's book may well be entitled, "It's not about the hip."

This is basically true! The ones that think Lance, Ullrich, Basso, Landis and others are guilty have already tried and convicted them in a public forum and the ones that deem some or all innocent will not be convinced otherwise.
Yes I know that there are difference as some only have only suspicion against them, but they have been tried and sentenced by the media already.
Guilty or innocent we have all already pretty much made our decision based on bits and pieces of information.

The "Doctors" of the Peloton know EXACTLY what is being introduced into the body of the cyclist.

Unless they knew what was in the pretzel at a roadside stand on a lonely French country road..............their charges would not be allowed to eat it...The shampoo, ointment, coughdrop, cold medicine etc. is an UTTER LIE.

I remember hosting an "American Style" BBQ in Nice, and being "grilled" (no pun intended) on the source of the beef, to positively be sure that the source did not utilize steroids ar anything else in raising the prospective cattle..

Even the after dinner peach brandy was inspected.

So, what do Europeans do when they win? Do they give their money to the needy and move to the countryside and live off the land in a purely subsistance lifestyle.

I have been at the end of a mountain stage in a high level competetive race here in the U.S. Sometimes I had to catch riders falling off thir bikes after they sprinted up a 500 meter 20% grade. Sometimes riders threw their 5,000 dollar bikes to the ground. Somtimes riders walked away into the woods and lay down. Sometimes riders got off their bikes and yelled.

None of them hugged thir spouses, none of them wanted to or could talk, and when approached by well meaning friends or relatives most waved them off angrily and could not talk or think for a number of minutes.

That is why Floyd threw the water bottle and got off the bike...he was still in the zone, had just ridden five hours at max level, and descended one of the hardest descent in the TOur at max speed.

Nothing unusual there at all.

Hopefully no cyclist did... otherwise we get more cheaters as my friend Skweter mentioned eralier (as we Europeans invented the "cheating"). Just kidding Skweter , but it would be a aweful that young American athletes learned from Virenque. Thus, don't read it.

Every celibrity has the right to write his experiences bad or good. Today professional sports means big money and that is the core of the problem. You will always have cheaters if money can be earned. Earning your money honestly is a big virtue. But it's something of all times (hopefully my memory is correct on this one). Also Eddy Merckx wrote a book even the Americans made a film where he has a small role, but who the hell was Eddy? So Skweter he was one of my greatest contrymen. Thus not French but Belgian. Even he was accused of taking dope in the Giro. That was along time ago. He also had to struggle against "nationalistique" - patriotic ideals of opponents (the French and Italians...). The little Belgian against the rest... .In that time the Americans still had to learn about cyclism. I must say as Belgium had and still has a keyfunction in this cylcing world I'm not proud of some of my countrymen (for example Pevenage, Museeuw, etc.). But if you have a popular sport with a lot of participants the bigger the change to have cheaters. Non popular sports will not have this dope problem. Correct me if I'm wrong. Of course on the Olympics you have again a lot of potentials to cheat. The Olympics used to be only for non-professional sporters but unfortunately that has changed. And this in all sports that have become popular especially if TV is involved.

I hope I didn't upset again my American friend because it was not my intention.
