Latest I heard is that this was definitely not a case of email spoofing, it was an actual penetration into the system, and documents unflattering to LNDD's image were obtained and distributed. No word on exactly what documents were obtained, but I did note Arnie Baker's statement on Friday that the documents he had did not come from that hacking, he had obtained them a month ago from 'other sources'. My conspiracy theory du jour on this one is that the hacker found a back door deliberately left by the LNDD admins, probably for use by L'Equipe reporters during the current situation. L'Equipe did publish the results of the CIR test before they had even been sent to the UCI, and this way LNDD admins could dismiss a leak as a hacker penetration, beyond their control. And then they forgot to close the back door... oops. The alternative is to think that the admins didn't have their system secured. In this day and age, no one is that dumb. Not even a lab administrator. It is curious, though... I can think of lots of groups who would love to hack into LNDD's computer - with all that confidential, sports based information, it would be a prime target. Gamblers alone would love that - find out who was borderline on the tests, and might get actually nailed soon. Why was a hacker able to penetrate at this particular moment, and not before? The timing is very coincidental, or providental as the case may be. I'm going to assume that the clumsy emails sent out were done by a kid with babelfish. If they were smart enough to do what dozens of dedicated gamblers couldn't do, they should have known better than to forge emails with a translator. While I heartily despise hackers (company has suffered from them more than once) I do respect what it takes to break into a system - persistence, and meticulous attention to detail. The emails seem rather clumsy for someone who pulled off the near impossible. |

Bush ought to fire the entire CIA and hire L'Equipe. Is there anything those devious French reporters are not involved in?
