Quite true. It's one thing to shout 'doper' in a crowded peloton, yet another to back it up with something more concrete than personal dogma.

As I recall, the original Flyer was banned, not because he accused everyone of doping, but because of the monotonous drone of shouting with nothing to back it up.

The guy from raceclean.org... interesting fella. Crazy insane site. Anything goes. Even the wives, dogs and offspring of dopers are open to ridicule and slander.

I e-mailed the Mr. Clean once stating that I was a North American pro and I was ready to come clean. I told him about camps in Mexico where we all got doped up. Pharmacy runs disguised as surfing trips. Buying from narcoticos only to be held up and ripped off, beaten and lucky to escape with our lives. Dark alleys, cloak and dagger, the CIA and the Contras... everyone played a hand.

And oh boy was he ready for me to go public. Ready for me to name names. See, I had a theory that anyone with any half-baked story or an ax to grind could get this guy to post anything about anyone. Boy was I right. In the end, I exposed myself (no, not like that) and told I was just ******* with him. I also read him the riot act for slandering people with anonymous sources when he himself was anonymous and he got really mad and put my name up on his site and said some very bad things about me and some was true.

So I did a little research and discovered what his real name was. He didn't like that. He really got mad when I wrote him about my plans to post our e-mail correspondence on the NWlist-serv (he went to the UofW in Seattle for four years). Well, he removed my name from his site and asked me to leave him alone and I didn't even ask him to. I really wish he'd called my bluff. There were some classic stories in those e-mails. And what prose. Some real zingers. I was quite proud of it all. I mean the underground network with connections just falling short of the president of the united states. When I exposed myself I was in the process of figuring out a way to work Henry Kissinger into the mix. I've got the skill to do things like that.

For the writer in me, it was... It was a glorious time to be alive.

Anyway, old boy's a career Cat.3 and he lives in N.Calif. I asked him once why he wouldn't use his real name if he was going to make all these accusations from anonymous sources and he told me it was because he was afraid of being blacklisted by pro teams, because he was on the cusp of making it as a pro cyclist. A lie, yes, but if it were the truth, think of the hypocrisy: "I am strongly rooted in my convictions against doping... but not that strongly! Where do I sign? When do I get a new kit?"

Anyway, I still tune into his site from time to time. He still my favorite zany little nut job.

All elite level sports abuse doping, then deny it as per commercial endorsement. The NFL, MLB, NHK, NBA, Olympics, FIFA, tennis, etc...

Even Olympic Baminton players have abused steroids and amphetamines.
